stories, rolled aside

Old stories. At first stacked up like a tower, then rolled aside. After a while I could see them or at least imagine to see them everywhere: next to the entrance, in the kitchen, on a bridge or leaning on the fence of a playground.

YOU ARE HERE
In every word I recognize you
in the words that I know I am with you
in the words that I don’t know or that have not been invented yet, we wait for each other.
In my old English dictionary there are many words between hyphen – Bindestrich and immortal – unsterblich: hypnotize, hypocrite, hypothesis, I, idealism, idiot, ignorant, immaterial, immense. To spell just a few. You are everywhere. And me too, how else would I know these words. Sometimes it is very obvious, sometimes not at all. I have used more than 100 pins to localize us. Of course, more than 100 is not enough. Of course, one dictionary cannot be enough.

on onion skins
green stuff, from today
Yesterday we were installing our works and today they can already be seen: “Green Stuff” opens the doors of the Old Jailhouse in Freising. My concrete-paper-pots have their premiere and I am also showing my book installation “the story goes on” for the first time in public.

Other artists showing their works in the group exhibition are Andrea Schuster (Illustration), Dietrich Ebersbach (textile collage), Gabriele Strehlau (painting), Leander Dolisni- Wennige (sculpture), Marion Birkholz (Mixed Media) und Reinhold Adscheid (photography).

The exhibition rooms on the first floor are open on Wed and Thur from 2 to 6 p.m., on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on the weekend from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. One of us artists will always be present.
The vernissage takes place on Friday the 13th of June at 6 p.m.

shopping patterns
Shopping receipts can be condensed to reveal the personality type of the consumer. This sentence could be from a marketing text book. With my little loom I did as market researchers do. I worked through a bunch of my own receipts, condensed and connected them and indeed, the patterns that emerged say a lot about me. Within the limits of this technique, of course.
You can see more of my shopping patterns over at behance .
weaving
Converting stories and joining them to form new patterns has something conciliatory and healthful to it. The new stories that are created through weaving with wool acquire a warm and soft quality. They are not told for differentiation but make bonds.
The story with feathers talks about longing: longing to be free as a bird, being able to fly and leave the limits of a familiar horizon. I used strips from songs and from a book about the history of spaceflight in combination with the feathers and wool.
The woven story with twigs is all about growing and greening. Maybe it is just a story about spring.
If you want to see more woven pieces, check out this woven selfie at flickr and a pattern from weaving plastic bags.
Vernissage: GDR books go independent
Finally, on the 12th of March, my exhibition about GDR books going independent was opened. We had a wonderful and fun reception at Combinat56, a creative coworking space in Munich. In celebration of the books from my childhood guests had been invited to come in 80s style outfits. Shoulder pads, big hair and neon accessoires certainly added to the fun of the evening…
A highlight for me was the performance of the choir of freelancers. With passion and joy they sang two songs that brought German history alive in the present moment. It was both moving and cheerful.

I was so happy about the many guests and inspiring conversations … Not just my book objects got a lot of positive comments, also the culinary supply (yummy!) by Combinat56 was deservedly praised. Many thanks to everyone who came to the vernissage and who participated in this wonderful evening. Special thanks go to Sina Brübach, founder of this space, who made this exhibition possible and who made sure that the vernissage was the party it was.
Until end of April 2014 you can visit my altered books during normal office hours and evening events at Combinat 56. You might want to check the booking table to see if the big meeting rooms are occupied at the time you want to visit (look for “Ideenschmiede” and “Großer Salon”).
All pictures of the vernissage have been taken by Christine Seidel. More pictures from the exhibition can be seen at flickr.
